The point guard remains a game-time decision going into the 7th and final game of their series with the Golden State Warriors. They have to be exhausted, and that's no way to go into a series against Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and the Warriors, who blew Cleveland away in five games past year, or James Harden and a Rockets team that can be every bit as potent on one end and lock teams down on the other.
"It's going to be fun", Stephen Curry said. Throughout the season we saw superstars shoulder the load carry their team, deliver game winners and come through when it counted. "But we'll have to kind of play it by ear for now".
Tatum, Boston's leading scorer for the postseason, scored a team-high 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting with seven rebounds over 42 minutes in Game 7. However, the defending champions struggled from the floor, trailed by as many as 17 points and were down 51-41 at halftime.
After Cleveland was ahead 76-73 with 4:44 to go, Boston missed its next nine field-goal attempts as the Cavs opened the lead to 86-74 heading into the final seconds.
Kevon Looney should get the start, but Iguodala's minutes will probably wind up going to the hot hand. This got the guys wonder who in the league is the most clutch, and they narrowed it down to the top five.
Kerr was at a loss to explain the early defensive lapses.
"We said we want to do this for Kevin", Lue said. "It was sort of a head scratcher". "Everybody always counted us out, so I'm proud of these guys".
Horford made the pass that set up a 3-point shot by Marcus Morris that gave Boston its biggest lead, 35-23, with 8:52 to play in the half.
The Golden State Warriors steamrolled the Houston Rockets in the second half last game to force tonight's Game 7.
Eric Gordon, starting in place of Paul, scored just three of his 19 points after the interval.
"I think at the end of the day, again, this team was the only team that I've been around at this level that I thought we might shoot 36 percent and win the game", Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. The Rockets also had 21 turnovers compared to Golden State's 10.
"A lot of miscommunication", Harden said. "They can only get better from here", read one comment.
When the Golden State Warriors lost Game 5 of the Western Conference finals to the Rockets on Thursday night to send them to the brink of elimination they vowed to be back in Houston for Game 7. Nothing changes for us. "As soon as we know, we'll say it, but we might not know until the afternoon (when we) see how it goes or he tests it out. We're still confident. We're a confident group, and we've just got one chance".
