The children, ages seven and eight, were questioned by police following their grandmother's arrest. "I couldn't see her actually doing that", said Skylarr Blake, who lives doors down from Cheeks.

Footage has emerged of the moment at grandmother apparently let her grandchildren out of dog kennels in the back of her vehicle.

Further investigation is now underway.

Temperatures in the area reached about 35 degrees Celsius. The mum is now facing charges of child endangerment.

According to the police in Memphis, a city located along the US Mississippi River, the video was shared online showing the two children getting out of pet kennels in the 3700 block of Elvis Presley Blvd Saturday evening.

According to Local Memphis, Nikita Blake, another of Cheeks' neighbours, added: "It's very sad".

Arresting officers noted there being no air conditioning vents in the back of the vehicle with the children telling police they became hot. The attention grew so rabid that the Memphis Police Department issued a statement on Facebook saying they had been contacted by many people since the video went viral on social media.

Cheeks, 62 has been charged with two counts of child endangerment.

A video taken by a passerby appears to show a young girl hopping out of a kennel from the trunk of the vehicle after a woman opens the metal cage door.

"I think she needs some help". She seems like a nice lady.

Strangely enough, there is little information available on the relations between Cheeks and the children, aged 7 and 8-years-old.
