Torreira was a key part of the Uruguay team which did well to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup before being knocked out by France on Friday.

Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira has admitted that he has been delaying his proposed move to Arsenal until after Uruguay's campaign in the World Cup, as per a report from the Daily Mail.

Lucas Torreira has confirmed he is on his way to Arsenal for a medical.

Arsenal could conclude the Torreira deal early, depending on if the player flies to London from Russian Federation rather than later if he is to come to the city after visiting Uruguay.

The Gunners said on Tuesday that Chambers signed a "long-term" contract but did not provide further details.

New boss Unai Emery has been in the market for a defensive midfielder this summer and Torreira emerged as his prime target with widespread speculation claiming we were in advanced talks with Sampdoria before the World Cup started last month. But the Uruguayan midfielder swiftly rejected the opportunity stating inconvenience at that point of time.

The 22-year-old has shown a brilliant engine in midfield, an undoubted passion and a gritty determination shown in numerous tackles with his head.

Do you think Torreira would be a good signing for Arsenal?

A number of those back in training are expected to feature when the Gunners kick off their pre-season fixture list with a trip to non-league Boreham Wood on Saturday. But, he did go on to suggest the Gunners might be in the market for a much younger, future prospect.
