Liverpool have made Alisson Ramses Becker the most expensive goalkeeper of all time after signing the Brazilian global for £66.8m from AS Roma.

Roma confirmed the value of the transfer for Alisson who featured at the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Last season in the semi-final of the Champions League, Roma lost 7-6 on aggregate to Liverpool, as the Premier League side progressed to the final in Kiev, where they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid. He started all five games for Brazil at the World Cup in Russian Federation where they bowed out with a quarter-final defeat by Belgium.

Alisson's signing will see him replace Loris Karius as Liverpool's number one goalkeeper, something Reds fans were excited about following the announcement.

Chelsea were also linked with Alisson who began his career with Internacional in Brazil before moving to Roma two years ago.

"I'm sorry because we've lost one of the best goalkeepers in the world and now we need to build a squad without him". Seemingly exhausted of being let down by other options, Klopp and Liverpool have found an expensive solution, but in doing so they have signed one of the five best goalkeepers in the world.

"We got to the Champions League semifinals, so I think we deserve a bit of faith".

John Arne Riise is blown away by the signings Liverpool have made in recent times, with goalkeeper Alisson Becker the latest to join on Thursday.

De Gea and Nick Pope were the only Premier League goalkeepers with a better "expected goals (xG) prevented" total than Alisson, who saved a net total of eight shots that he was expected to concede. Apart from the fact that the club is massive, the players that have come through here and the titles won.

"The player's there undergoing a medical and, if he passes that, the deal could go through", he said.

Karius was at fault for two of Real Madrid's three goals in May's Champions League final defeat - after which it was revealed by United States doctors the player was suffering from concussion.
