Except Courtney Smith showed McMurphy text messages from Meyer's wife Shelley that certainly seem to indicate she was well aware of Zach Smith's violent past.
The former assistant, Zach Smith, was sacked last week after an OH court granted a protective order sought by his ex-wife Courtney Smith.
Zach Smith had been on Meyer's staff since Meyer's days at the University of Florida, but he was sacked last week after McMurphy dug up multiple police reports alleging domestic violence against Zach Smith.
Ryan Day will serve as interim head coach while the investigation is ongoing.
Meyer ended up as the Ohio State coach because of a previous football scandal.
"I got a text last night that something happened in 2015, and there was nothing", Meyer told reporters at the Big Ten Media Days, adding, "I don't know who creates a story like that".
She continued, "When somebody is crying out for help, I believe, the coach along with the coach's wife have a duty".
You can say you would've handled things differently, but that overlooks the larger, much more important, issue.
Bringing in outsiders could potentially impact the timeline of the university making a decision on Meyer's future, as they will have less working knowledge of the infrastructure and reporting lines at Ohio State. He was Ohio State's wide receivers coach until his firing last week. The Smiths separated in June 2015 and divorced in 2016.
In an interview with McMurphy, Courtney reportedly said she and Shelley regularly talked about Zach's abuse in 2015.
The most recent charge occurred in May, during an incident that occurred when Zach Smith dropped off the couple's son at his wife's home. "I was never told about anything and nothing ever came to light". He was also asked about the 2015 incident alleged by Courtney Smith.
