Mourinho claims he IS happy with his players despite transfer woes

Manchester United's centre-back pursuit ended on what could arguably be deemed to be comical terms.

"(Sergio) Romero, he had a surgery after his injury in the World Cup, (Antonio) Valencia, he was injured in pre-season, Marcos Rojo, he was injured in the World Cup, (Diogo) Dalot had a surgery in Porto at the end of April and is not yet ready", said Mourinho, talking through his injuries.

For now, though, expect to see Pogba at Old Trafford at least for the first half of the upcoming season.

"But it's the same conversation as with (Ashley) Young, (Marouane) Fellaini, (Jesse) Lingard, it's the same".

"[The United board's] vision of team-building is considerably different and that is why Woodward is against selling players such as Martial, Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw when they could conceivably be an asset to the club for many years".

His performance at the 2018 World Cup for France though only confirmed of his standing as one of the top talents in the world at his position, which garnered him plenty of interest this summer during the transfer window.

Fred has been United's biggest signing of the summer. Leicester, on their part, acquired six new signings with Ricardo Pereira, Rachid Ghezzal and former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans being the notable ones.

Provisional squad: Schmeichel, Jakupovic, Ward, Simpson, Benkovic, Amartey, Pereira, Morgan, Benalouane, Maguire, Evans, Fuchs, Chilwell, Elder, King, James, Mendy, Ndidi, Iborra, Choudhury, Silva, Albrighton, Gray, Kapustka, Maddison, Ghezzal, Vardy, Ulloa, Okazaki, Slimani, Iheanacho.

Manchester United finished 19 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City last season, while bitter rivals Liverpool FC have spent nearly £200m on new signings this summer.

Leicester City have a fully fit squad.

Man Utd have won their opening fixture more often than any other side in Premier League history (17).

United play Leicester City at Old Trafford on Friday night - live on Sky Sports - but they begin their Premier League campaign on the back of a turbulent pre-season.

"Manchester United haven't got them as early as Jose would have liked".

"I like my players and my group".

The Premier League transfer window may now be closed, but that's not the case in Spain.

But the club failed to deliver on any of his defensive targets. "My goal was to come to Real Madrid, everyone knew that".
