Saquon Barkley's thrilling 39-yard rush in first National Football League carry

National Football League fans attending the New York Giants' preseason game against the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night had the opportunity to place a legal wager on the game from inside the stadium.

Saquon Barkley knows how to deliver. An early star of HBO's Cleveland edition of "Hard Knocks", he'll have his first live-game shot at flashing his No. 1-caliber athleticism. Njoku caught a seam route from Taylor for the first touchdown and was the beneficiary of Mayfield extending a play from 10 yards out.

While that was all well and good, Mayfield's showcase came after Taylor completed all of his pass attempts (5 for 5, 99 yards) in posting a ideal passer rating (158.3) and had the more impressive TD connection with Njoku. On his first red-zone attempt, Mayfield hit David Njoku in the back of the end zone with a jump-ball 10-yard TD, Njoku's second score of the game and Mayfield's first as a Brown.

Callaway, the Browns' fourth-round pick, played despite being cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license.

Mayfield isn't exactly playing the underdog role after going first overall in the draft, but he won't let you forget that he's not the tallest guy, that he was once a college walk-on and that, entering 2018, he's entrenched as a backup behind new Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor. That's unlikely, as Hue Jackson and John Dorsey have up until now been steadfast in the support of the starter, Taylor, who couldn't have been more efficient in his own Browns debut. Then, Cleveland fans got to see the debut of rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield.
