Sony's Xperia XZ3 with Android Pie, Curved OLED display gets launched

As you'd expect from an OLED screen with Bravia influences, the Xperia XZ3's screen features inky blacks and lovely, vibrant colors. The immediate strategy is to focus on the heavyweight division, competing against other companies striving to make the very best phone around.

It's not all copy and paste from the XZ2 though, with Sony adding a few quirks to the new offering.

Coming to the hardware specifications, the Sony Xperia XZ3 is a successful flagship smartphone in the company's list.

The flagship Xperia XZ3, however, appears to have a Snapdragon 845 like most other lead models right now.

Packed with audio and visual technology created to help "capture reality", the Xperia XZ3 features a 6.0-inch 18:9 2880 x 1440 resolution display featuring OLED technology for deeper blacks, sharper images, richer and more vibrant colours. Sony will probably follow Google's design language though, so you'll probably get horizontal multitasking, but we're not sure if navigation gestures will be included. Extra importantly, it does improve HDR so colors undoubtedly pop out of the display hide.

The XZ3 uses a 7000-series aluminum alloy, which Sony says will keep the phone lightweight while helping it resist stress and cracking. There is neither a notch nor a 3.5mm headphone jack on the device. The back side of the Xperia XZ3 XZ2 different from the less curved form and a small metal insert below the Xperia logo.

The phone will come in a choice of four colours - Black, White Silver, Forest Green, and Bordeaux Red - and will be available next month, with pre-orders opening soon. (Xperia XZ3've got the basic single camera based on the new 48-megapixel sensor IMX586).

Thanks to new technology, the device allows you to instantly launch the camera in the horizontal position of the device. As is the case with most Sony smartphones, the Xperia XZ3 is also IP65/68 certified for water and dust resistance. Under the hood, the handset gets powered by Snapdragon 845 processor bundled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage.

Why it matters: Sony just unveiled its latest flagship phone the Xperia XZ3 at IFA 2018.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Premium both launched on Android Oreo with Sony's software overlayed on top. And it's a lot of money.
