Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson and Paul Casey were selected Wednesday as Europe's wild cards for the Ryder Cup, with captain Thomas Bjorn opting for experienced players to balance a team already containing five rookies.
That was the most pertinent question after Bjorn picked the 2017 Masters victor along with Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Henrik Stenson to fill out his team to face the U.S.at Le Golf National in Paris later this month.
"I wouldn't have written it any better, to be honest with you", DeChambeau said.
The 42-year-old Stenson has played in four Ryder Cups and holed the winning putt on his debut at The K Club in 2006.
Re-established as one of world's leading players Bjorn, who calls him "the man for the occasion", is right to invest in Poulter, someone who has won 13 out of 18 Ryder Cup points to date.
With Woods now part of Furyk's team rather than backroom staff, David Duval, Zach johnson and Matt Kuchar have been added as USA vice-captains. Tiger will be representing the US on the course in a couple of weeks.
Bjorn has taken a huge gamble on Garcia, one that could hinder Europe's chances of winning the Ryder Cup.
'I'm excited about the team this year, I'm excited to be part of the team. I got off to a great start this year.
"I haven't been part of the team playing-wise for six years".
Furyk also announced that David Duval, Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar would join Davis Love III and Steve Stricker as US vice-captains in Paris. DeChambeau has recorded nine top-10 finishes this year on the PGA Tour. For the continent to wrestle back the trophy these wildcards will be under pressure to repay the faith shown by their captain.
The final United States wildcard looks set to go to Tony Finau. Furyk invited him as part of a small group that played Le Golf National on the weekend before the British Open.
During the FedEx Cup playoffs, he was runner-up at one event and tied for fourth at the other.
Explaining his decision to pick Woods, Furyk said: 'Tiger has been instrumental in helping not only captains before me but me as well.
Tiger Woods can add yet another milestone to his 2018 professional golf comeback. "It's going to be an interesting crowd".
"That's something I've been working on doing for a long time and hopefully I can get closer to that number one spot. We've got three weeks to go and I want it to be next week".
"He's won three times so far under the age of 25, which is pretty impressive", Woods said on Sunday after being paired with DeChambeau. Woods was an assistant at Hazeltine and at the Presidents Cup last fall at Liberty National in a US route.
Woods is now ranked No. 26 in the world. Furyk also said Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar would fill out his lineup of vice captains, joining Davis Love III and Steve Stricker.
