Unai Emery criticises Arsenal forwards after narrow win against Newcastle

Arsenal managed to secure a 2-1 victory at St James Park against Newcastle thanks to a superb Granit Xhaka free-kick and a Mesut Ozil goal.

Newcastle had the better of the first half but could not test keeper Petr Cech often enough to get themselves in front.

Here's how we rated the Gunners after their win today.

Arsenal were forced to endure a nervous final few minutes after Ciaran Clark's injury time consolation and Emery was disappointed his strikers failed to make the game safe earlier.

"He has to continue helping with his quality and working hard to continue with the performances we want from him".

"I want also his best performance for us and today first of all, he worked well and then also he did a good match". Every competition for me I have respect for and want to do the best for.

The Arsenal manager can look to his bench if needed at any point in the game, with options to change things up including Danny Welbeck and Lucas Torreira.

Ten minutes later Ozil doubled the lead by calmly slotting home after a spell of prolonged pressure in and around the box as Emery's side took charge.

Emery said: "For me I see the players are the same, each have quality". I will work with every player and continue our process to create the team as we want'.

"We want to give them all a chance to score but normally all the attacking players will do more".

"The first half we couldn't control the match like we wanted".

"The second half, the balance on the pitch was better, our positioning when we were attacking. The first goal gave us confidence to continue and improve in the match and the second finished the match".
