Kavanaugh accuser speaks to newspaper on record

"I hope the attacks and shaming of her will stop and this will be treated with the seriousness it deserves".

Ms Ford, 51 and a clinical psychology professor at Palo Alto University in California, said she was able to get away after a friend of Mr Kavanaugh's who was in the room jumped on top of them and everyone tumbled.

Ford did not discuss specifics of the incident with anyone for decades, The Post reports, although she did tell her husband early on in their relationship that she'd been a victim of physical abuse.

The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee said on Sunday that the Senate should delay further action on confirming Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh until newly revealed allegations of sexual assault from 35 years ago are investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

In the interview, Ford said that the lasting trauma from the attack had "derailed me substantially for four or five years", and had caused anxiety for years after that. Now, whenever Ms. Hill's sexual harassment allegations are raised, he or his defenders can at least say they were explored by the senators and ultimately found insufficient to deny Mr. Thomas a seat on the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh's accuser went public with allegations on Sunday, but Feinstein received a letter with the claims in July.

Ford did not initially want to reveal her identity in connection with the allegation and only came forward in a Washington Post story published Sunday after it was clear her identity would be leaked. The White House countered that Feinstein was waging an "11th hour attempt to delay [Kavanaugh's] confirmation".

In a statement, she called the accusations "extremely serious" and said they "bear heavily on Judge Kavanaugh's character". They both laughed as Kavanaugh tried to disrobe me in their highly inebriated state. He also said she mentioned Kavanaugh's name and voiced concern he might one day ascend to the Supreme Court-he was a D.C. Circuit Court judge at the time. Kavanaugh grinded his body against hers and attempted to pull off her one-piece bathing suit and the clothing she wore over it, she said.

"Now I feel like my civic responsibility is outweighing my anguish and terror about retaliation", Ford told the Post.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a senior Republican committee member, said he "would gladly" hear from Ford if she wanted to appear before the panel, but it would have to be done quickly. The test determined that Ford was being truthful when she said a statement summarizing her allegations, according to the Post.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that he would like to have Kavanaugh confirmed by October 1, the start of the Supreme Court's new term. "I did not do this back in high school or at any time", Kavanaugh said through the White House. Critics have accused the GOP of fast-tracking the process to get Kavanaugh on the court by October 1, the first day of the fall term.

"Well, I obviously was very surprised, and it's an issue that I brought up with him last Friday, and he denied as he did in his written statement".

Ford said she never told anyone about the attack until 2012, when she was in couple's therapy with her husband.

Brett Kavanaugh will more than likely be our next Supreme Court Justice, despite obvious proof that he is unqualified and will work to dismantle civil liberties.

WaPo said she refused to talk with them for "weeks".

The two, as well as several other friends, began drinking, although she said Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge, had started earlier than the group.
