US First Lady Melania Trump arrives for solo tour of Ghana

She met the country's first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and exchanged gifts before having tea at the Jubilee House, Ghana's presidential palace.

The wife of the President of the United States of America, Melania Trump has arrived in Accra for a 5-day African trip. She toured wings of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, including an older part of the hospital and a newer facility, and passed out teddy bears wrapped in blankets.

She'll also be implementing her Be Best program aimed at tackling cyberbullying, which is just really ironic considering she lives with the biggest cyberbully in the world.

This is Mrs Trump's first big solo worldwide trip, aiming to make child well-being the focus of a five-day, four-country tour that will take her to every corner of Africa.

There's an overall sense of skepticism that exists around her trip and her motivations-and rightfully so.

I'd like to take a moment and thank the First Lady of Ghana for being with us today.

In addition to Ghana, she is due to visit Malawi, Kenya and Egypt before returning to Washington early on October 7. "I don't think I have ever heard her name, Melania".

An AFP reporter at the airport said the former model was smiling and looked relaxed as she was entertained by a troupe of traditional drummers and dancers.
