A gunman opened fire inside a yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday, killing two women and wounding five other people before killing himself, authorities said.

The shooter has been identified as 40-year-old Scott Beierle.

He killed himself at the scene on Friday.

"Her dedication, caring, leadership, humanity and experience made her one of the most respected, accomplished medical professionals in the state and country", Capital Health Plan said. "Our hearts are with her family, our sisters and the FSU community during this hard time". "We all have been so blessed to have Nancy in our lives", the company said.

The shooting's two victims were identified as 61-year-old Dr. Nancy Van Vessem and 21-year-old Maura Binkley. "To lose a faculty member and a student and have others injured in this senseless and violent way is absolutely devastating", Florida State President John Thrasher said in a statement Saturday.

'We feel this loss profoundly and we send our deepest sympathies to Maura's and Nancy's loved ones while we pray for the recovery of those who were injured'.

The gunman, who was already dead when officers arrived, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the police chief said in a statement Saturday. "We know the kind of gun violence that pervades too many of our neighborhoods, too many of our communities every day of the week".

Melissa Hutchinson said she helped treat a "profusely" bleeding man who rushed into a bar after the incident. They told her the shooter kept coming in and out of the studio.

"It was a shocking moment something happened like this", Hutchinson said.

The man who burst into a Florida yoga studio and fatally shot two women before killing himself was a racist misogynist who railed against women in online rants, according to reports. Both outlets report that when he described a woman he says did not show up to dates they had scheduled, he said he "could've ripped her head off".

It created a window of opportunity for some people in the studio time to flee.

Tallahassee City Commissioner Scott Maddox called the shooting a "senseless act of evil" and the "worst" scene he had been on in his public service career. This is the worst.

Witness Elle Welling told the AP that she was leaving a liquor store across the street from the shopping center and saw at least three people loaded into ambulances.

The plaza where the shooting took place is home to popular restaurants, a jewelry store, a framing shop, a hair salon and other businesses. "It sounded like a limb falling on a tin roof and rolling".

The restaurant's owner came past a short time later, asking if anyone was a doctor, Mr Wesson said.

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam campaigned for Gillum at an 8:30 a.m. event in Lake Worth, where Gillum was initially scheduled to appear prior to the Orlando stop. Two died at the hospital and two were in stabled condition and three later release.

Beierle posted several videos to a YouTube channel in 2014 that painted himself as the victim of "treachery" by numerous "females" he has wanted to "court".

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum tweeted that he will be returning to Tallahassee tonight after campaigning in Miami. Beierle was a graduate of nearby Florida State University but he was living in a city in central Florida.

Tallahassee's murder rate has been an issue in the governor's race, with Gillum's opponent Republican former U.S. Representative Ron DeSantis accusing him of being weak on crime.
