"People started getting out of their vehicles and running". Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said some people at the hospital were trapped in a tunnel. "I'm driving through fire as we speak. We were able to get them home pretty quick", he said.
The Camp Fire began early Thursday morning near Camp Creek Road and Highway 70 in the Feather River Canyon.

Shari Bernacett said she and her husband tried to get people to leave the mobile home park they manage in Paradise and had minutes to evacuate.
She and her husband "knocked on doors, yelled and screamed" to alert as numerous residents of 53 mobile homes and recreational vehicles as possible to leave, Bernacett said.

Jillian Smalley escaped her neighborhood as fire consumed everything around her. Flames and cinders crawled along the ground and up trees as she, her mother and grandmother fled the area.
"We had to drive through flames to make it out safely", she said.
Videos and photos on social media show thick, opaque smoke wafting over the ridges toward town.
Freeman says she's had trouble reaching her family and friends who live in the area because phone lines are down.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company said about 14,000 residents of Butte and Plumas counties were without power due to fire activity and requests from firefighters to cut electricity in certain areas for safety, Sacramento Bee reported.

The fire forced the evacuation of patients from Paradise's main hospital to hospitals in Oroville and Chico.
He said sheriff's deputies helped patients evacuate.
