A spokeswoman for Winfrey on Monday issued a statement saying Lee died at her Milwaukee home on November 22.

Over 10 years ago, Vernita sat down for an interview with TMJ4 at her Milwaukee condo, dishing on her famous daughter, "I loved her the way that she loves people now".

Winfrey has yet to address her mother's death. A cause of death has not yet been determined. In 1954 she gave birth to her first daughter, Oprah, who was raised by both her and her grandparents throughout her childhood.

Winfrey's relationship with her mother changed for the better over the years, and Lee was occasionally spotted on Winfrey's daytime talk show, which ran on ABC from 1986 to 2011.

"I'm sorry for your loss", and "Praying for you and your family!" are just a couple of the digital notes that were addressed to Winfrey.

'I suddenly land in a place that's completely foreign to me.

Oprah has not publicly commented on her mother's passing. She put another daughter, Patricia Amanda Faye Lee, up for adoption during the early 1960s. Her other two children, Jeffrey, and Patricia Lee died back in 1989 and 2003, respectively.

The news was reportedly confirmed by Oprah's niece Alisha Hayes via social media, TMZ reports.

She welcomed friends and family for a feast, uploading a video in view of her 15 million Instagram followers showing her smoking turkeys with the help of a chef. "Makes for an even happier Thanksgiving!".

According to Daily Mail, Lee died last Thursday on the United States Thanksgiving Day.
