The only problem: The NYPD is still searching for the couple.
NY police are looking for a happy couple who were victims of an unhappy accident. On their official Twitter account, NYPD posted CCTV footage that shows a man dropping his fiancee's ring in the drain while proposing to her.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) said that they had rescued the ring and were looking for the happy couple in a tweet at about 5pm local time on Saturday (Singapore time 6am, Sunday, Dec 2). "Help us find them?"
The man popped the question in the middle of Times Square, police said, and then lost hold of the engagement ring.
They also released a picture of the dropped jewellery, saying: "We have your ring!".
They have put out a plea for the man and woman to come forward.
It is unclear why he chose to propose atop a subway grate, but love makes you do wild things.
Unfortunately for the couple, the NYPD does not have the couple's details, therefore it can't reunite them with the ring.
"I am licensed to practice as a Proposal Location Judge and I would rate this one as a two in regards to kneeling over a grate", another user said.
Comments by netizens have been largely positive, with many saying this is what they love about NY, and others praising the city's police force.
