Bohemian Rhapsody won best film drama and best drama actor for Malek's role in the film.
Netflix also won numerous awards for the series "The Kominsky Method", which won both best actor in a comedy series for Michael Douglas (he dedicated the honour to this 102-year-old father, Kirk Douglas) and for best comedy series over favoured nominees like "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" (whose star, Rachel Brosnahan still won) and "Barry".
Another candid moment from Oh's opening spiel came after she poked fun at the whitewashing of Asian-American roles in her opening speech, calling Crazy Rich Asians "the first studio film with an Asian-American lead since "Ghost in the Shell" and 'Aloha.'" It prompted Emma Stone, who was cast as quarter-Hawaiian and quarter-Chinese Allison Ng in Aloha, to shout out "I'm sorry!"
But Golden Globe wins could influence Oscar voters. Mahershala Ali, whom the foreign press association overlooked for his Oscar-winning performance in "Moonlight", won best supporting actor for "Green Book".
Lady Gaga, who was nominated for multiple awards for her role in "A Star Is Born", used her red carpet look to pay tribute to the star of the 1954 version of the film - Judy Garland. That made for some head-scratching this year when two movies about music, "A Star is Born" and "Bohemian Rhapsody", were nominated as dramas. It won best film, comedy or musical, and best screenplay.
In Malek's acceptance speech for his best drama actor award, the actor thanked Mercury and commended Queen for their role in the film.
"I have no idea what is happening", she said, looking stunned (or maybe just mock-stunned) upon returning to her hosting duties, her Golden Globe still in her hand. They are not related to the Academy Awards. The movie is based on the lives of real people: a black man and his white bodyguard.

Few winners were seen as more certain than Lady Gaga as best actress in a drama at Sunday's ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. He thanked the man on whom his character was based.
Cooper was also unsuccessful in his best director bid, and instead saw the award handed to Alfonso Cuaron for Roma, which was also named best foreign language film.
Olivia Colman won best actress in a comedy/musical for her part as Queen Anne in "The Favourite". And FX's "The Americans" won for best drama series in its sixth and final season. We want nothing to do with Hollywood's serious movies or their obnoxious politics, or their neverending celebrations of self.
