This could result in a band of freezing rain or sleet impacting an area from southern Iowa and northern Missouri eastward to the southern Great Lakes, potentially including Chicago and Cleveland.

"It could be around 12 hours or possibly even more of freezing rain through the area", said Rozinskis. Temperatures are expected to fall well below freezing tonight, with overnight lows in the teens.

National Weather Service forecasts show that the foothills could see significant snow late Monday night into Tuesday.

Chatham-Kent, London, Strathroy and Middlesex County are also under a freezing rain warning.

The exception to this will be in the far north where temperatures will drop to near or slightly below freezing, leading to freezing rain and icy conditions. They say most of the snow cover will disappear Tuesday.

True ice storms are uncommon in this part of the county, the weather service said on Facebook. Untreated roads and sidewalks may become slick with a thin layer of ice.

The temperature had reached 63 degrees by 2 p.m.in Boston.

As cold air moves in Wednesday night into Thursday morning any precipitation transitions to snow albeit not much accumulation.
