What people are saying about Gayle King after R. Kelly interview

Nearly two weeks after he was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, singer R. Kelly is breaking his silence about his case.

Kelly told King he agreed to the interview because he is "tired of all the lies". King received praise from her colleagues for keeping her cool as she "remained tough and calm" throughout the experience, but Norah O'Donnell said she was "worried" about her when she "saw the pictures". "I have been buried alive, but I'm alive".

He continued, "I'm not Lucifer". I'm gonna take her to the concert.

The criminal charges in IL followed increasing scrutiny and protests over allegations of Kelly's abuse of young girls and women, including parents who publicly accused Kelly of holding women against their will in what was described as an abusive and controlling "cult", and a new documentary, Surviving R Kelly, in which women who said they had been victimized by the singer shared their stories. Both women were interviewed as well. "When we got to go backstage with R. Kelly, we stayed there over two hours", Jonjelyn told BuzzFeed in 2017. Revisiting the topic of sex with minors - er, sorry, "much younger" women - Kelly argued, "I don't look at "much younger, ' I look at 'legal" - a delineation that surely had King, like us, silently throwing up a bit inside. "Absolutely not. Robert is the guy who sings". Kelly asked. "How come it was OK for me to see them until they wasn't getting no money from it?" He explained, "What kind of father, what kind of mother, will sell their daughter to a man?"

When King asked Kelly if he has held women against their will, he replied: "That's stupid!"

"But I'm not talking about the one case in which you were acquitted", says King. She sat mostly stone-faced across from Kelly as he denied wrongdoing. "This is the first time I was able to say something".

Kelly painted himself the victim. I had two cases back then that I said in the beginning of the interview that I would not talk about because of my ongoing case now.

"Quit playing. I didn't do this stuff".

Since being charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Kelly has pleaded not guilty and has maintained his innocence.

Kelly had several outbursts during the sit-down and even stood up at one point to shout and scream at the camera.

'I didn't do this stuff, ' declared Kelly.

In a follow-up tweet, Avenatti addresses the emotion that Kelly shows in the interview: "R. Kelly's tears are out of fear and despair".

R. Kelly says she's his girlfriend, but Joycelyn Savage's parents allege she is a brainwashed victim being held against her will.

In a preview, he called Gaga "a very great talent", but said it was "not professional" for her to apologise for working with Kelly.

"Something like this can happen to any artist", Kelly told King. "Anybody famous. Anybody famous can get accused of so many different things", he claimed.
