In a statement on their service website, Google said: "We're investigating reports of an issue with Gmail".
On Twitter, many voiced their frustration at being unable to check and send emails. Google had confirmed the issues with Gmail and Google Drive on G Suite Status Dashboard and the company noted that the outage began at 8:23am IST. "We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support".
On its GSuite dashboard, Google first updated acknowledging the problem, which it said needs to be resolved. Drive: "Upload and download of files", it said.
According to downdetector.com.au, almost 3000 users this morning reported problems logging in, using attachments or receiving messages. By midnight ET, users in countries all around the world discovered themselves having non-working Gmail accounts.
For a few hours now, Google Drive and Gmail have been hit by a global outage (for only some users though). "Major issues everywhere", another user tweeted.
