Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Manchester United were not good enough vs Wolves

United had lost their last game at Arsenal and the absence of Romelu Lukaku through injury meant they lacked presence up front against the intense home side, who sought to cancel out their opponents in midfield while picking them off on the break.

"It was a big step backwards, I have to say".

Wolves are an impressive side - probably the best of the rest outside the Premier League's top six - and Nuno Espirito Santo's players were fully deserving of the 2-1 victory, secured by second-half Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota goals, which confirmed the club's first FA Cup semifinal place for 21 years.

"Sometimes worldwide breaks come in handy and we would have loved to play it again and put it right".

"We know we've played well against Arsenal last week and didn't get what we deserved, but today we got what we deserved because we never deserved to win this game".

United have two weeks off for the global break before resuming their push for a top-four finish with a home game against Watford and they also have a Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona to look forward to.

Asked whether this defeat could harm his chances of becoming permanent manager, Solskjaer replied: "I'm here until the summer, we've got loads to play for in the league and the Champions League".

"We've got to think about the longevity as well, who's going to fit in personality-wise".

Solskjaer will know that his Red Devils side will need to be competitive and close to their best to leave Molineux with victory, as Wolves have been a hard opponent this term for English football's top teams.

"We played well and we achieved it with the unbelievable support of our fans, pushing us and believing in us". This was arguably the worst performance the Red Devils have produced since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December.

"To give them back this joy and see our fans going out of the stadium with a smile, with a lot of beer, of course, it feels good".

"We've had a great run and now we've had two defeats". Very well done to the boys and it was a fantastic atmosphere.
