The drawing scheduled for Saturday, March 23 could produce the first victor of 2019.

No winning tickets were sold for Wednesday's drawing, making Saturday's jackpot the seventh-largest Powerball prize in history. He hit the $298.3 million jackpot on December 26. Lawson's jackpot holds the record for the largest Lottery prize ever won in MI.

In 2016, Americans spent more than $72 billion on lottery tickets, according to the United States Census Bureau.

The Powerball jackpot was last won by David Johnson, a 56-year-old supermarket worker from Brooklyn, New York. That was because the Powerball jackpot was worth a staggering $638 million. A SC purchaser won a $1.54 billion Mega Millions jackpot, which marked the nation's second-largest lottery prize ever.

"We're keeping our fingers crossed that the first Powerball jackpot victor of 2019 will be a Texan", Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, said in a statement.

Powerball also features prizes ranging from $4 to $1 million.

Players pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers - five different numbers from 1 to 70 and one number from 1 to 25 - or select Easy Pick. There are smaller prizes for tickets with fewer of the winning numbers. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million.

Powerball is played in 44 states in the U.S., plus D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
