Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki (41) speaks to fans after the game against the Phoenix Suns at American Airlines Center.

Spurs fans showed plenty of love to the 40-year-old future Hall of Famer, and he said it "felt nearly like a home game".

Across his entire career, regular season and playoffs, Dirk played the Spurs 110 times, amassing 2,232 points, 931 rebounds and 251 assists.

Dwyane Wade was honoured after his final home game for Miami Heat.

Crawford wrapped up his 19th season at the conclusion of the night's game.

Telling Nowitzki on the arena floor that he couldn't adequately describe how he felt about "what you've meant for this organization", Cuban said, "I promise you that everything you taught us will continue on".

Dirk Nowitzki #41 of the Dallas Mavericks became emotional during video of his highlights before the game against the San Antonio Spurs at AT&T Center on April 10, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas.

The Mavericks legend was a key part of their 2011 National Basketball Association championship-winning team, and bowed out as a 14-time All-Star.

"It will never be the same around here", said Rick Carlisle, who coached Nowitzki for his final 11 seasons.

Nowitzki got a huge sendoff Tuesday night in his final home game, and Wednesday night, the curtain will finally fall on his career. He was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player in 2007 and the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 2011. Nowitzki reached that spot last season, but James passed him.

The only 7-footer to win the All-Star 3-point shooting contest was the first player of his size to be a legitimate threat behind the arc.

Nowitzki has played 38 games in San Antonio, tied for the third-highest total of any player. Bryant retired three years ago.
