Tiger Woods hugs his family after winning the Masters golf tournament Sunday, April 14, 2019, in Augusta, Ga.

Woods also set a record for the longest gap between Masters triumphs, the 14-year spread one year longer than the old mark set by South African Gary Player from 1961 to 1974.

Tony Finau, who was also in the final group with Woods, said on Saturday that Woods' 1997 Masters win was the reason he took up golf.

A decade after a marital dispute with his then-wife led to a crushing fall from grace for the golfer ー which was then compounded by years of injuries, surgeries and a public battle with substance abuse ー Woods claimed his first major championship in 11 years, and the 15th of his career.

Tony Finau's scenario was different from everyone else - Francesco Molinari aside - because he spent Sunday in Woods's company.

Nike has likely had this commercial ready to send for the last several years, but it was worth the wait since it hits you right in the feels.

CBS said that made the rerun the third-highest-rated golf broadcast on any network this year.

The 43-year-old American superstar, who underwent spinal fusion surgery in 2017 due to chronic back pain, seized his first major title since the 2008 US Open. I am so inspired.

"I'm just ecstatic for golf and I'm ecstatic for Tiger, " Johnson said.

Augusta, and indeed the quality of opposition, have changed dramatically since Woods won his fourth green jacket in 2005.

Williams, 37, took to Twitter Sunday to voice her support for the 15-time major championship victor.

Sunday's thrilling victory puts the former world No.1 just three majors behind the all-time record of Jack Nicklaus. I hoped my win would encourage them to play, or to chase their dreams whatever they were.

But it was Sunday's victory at Augusta, topping one of the strongest ever major championship leaderboards, that truly completed Tiger's comeback. But I had a good feeling that the way I was [playing] that I was going to be in the mix. He is now three short of the record 18 majors won by Jack Nicklaus and is the second oldest Masters victor after Nicklaus. It's one of the hardest I've ever had to win.

"You couldn't have had more drama than we all had out there".

"It's the best I've felt with a driver in years", Woods said.

Now, today's generation is going to know what it felt like to be in the field when Tiger was in his prime, when nearly nobody else mattered but Tiger, when every interview came with multiple Tiger questions, when nothing else mattered with Tiger stalking a title.

"It's nice to see his story, his comeback, and to be a witness in the first person", Molinari said.

"I did the same thing to my dad and now I'm the dad with my son doing the same thing", he reflected to CNN's Andy Scholes.

Watson said he noted how Woods talked before the final round about being confident with his putter.
