Slow & Steady Wins the Race

So Stop Stressing Out & Spinning Your Wheels

Hey, I have a question for you. Have you had enough of the same old, same old? How much longer will you toil with the same lesson from yesterday? I mean, it’s one thing to hold out for better weather. Yet, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and still you sit torturing yourself about the next steps you should take.

Look, it’s simple. You’ve only got to put one foot in front of the other. It doesn’t matter if you reach the finish line today, in a month, or a year. As long as every day that you wake up you make a conscious effort to do your best and make at least one positive step forward.

Recall the story of The Tortoise and the Hare. It didn’t matter in the end that the Tortoise moved slowly, he still won. The reason is simple, the Hare tried to do too much in his antics and showboating and wore himself out. The Tortoise instead just moved at his own pace but kept putting one foot in front of the other. That’s all you’ve got to do.

Don’t let anyone, including yourself, dictate to you that you’re not doing enough or that you’re a failure just because it’s taken you longer to find your true calling. Some folks never find their life’s purpose and honestly that’s ok too, as long as they made an honest effort every day to be better than the day before.

So maybe you’ve got all these things running through your head. Perhaps, you simply just over-thinking or over complicating things. Every moment of every day we have a choice to make. We either sit idle and do nothing or we make strides to improve ourselves.

What about this? If you woke up every morning and decided what to eat for breakfast, and instead of skipping out the door with a piece of toast and cup of coffee, you woke up a touch earlier and cooked yourself some bacon and eggs. Can you imagine how much more satisfying and nutritious that would be? Now you’ve got the essential nutrients to help you make strides all day long.

Ok, so you’ve eaten. Now, you’re off to work. You sit in traffic and your brain starts bouncing back and forth, right? Maybe this is the perfect time to practice some mindful attention. Mentally go over your daily workload and establish your plan of attack, then let it go.

If you spend all your time at the office, it’s time to stop that. Every day, you should do one thing that betters you as a person. This could be taking an online course in web design or learning a foreign language. Every day you should do one thing that is just for fun. Go grab a beer and watch the ball game or work on that Model T in the garage.

Now we’re getting somewhere. But, what about our loved ones? Shouldn’t we also do one thing to better their day? Do that. It doesn’t matter what it is just do something nice or helpful for the people you surround yourself with. Bettering their world will also contribute to bettering yours.

If you’re still struggling with figuring out what it is you’re meant to do in this world and you’re totally stumped, instead of driving yourself nuts stressing it so hard- maybe let go of the notion you have a purpose. Maybe your purpose is simply to be a bridge or signpost for someone else’s path. That in its own right, IS a purpose.

But the Universe will put you where you need to be at the right moment. Stop fighting the current, just let go…Or be dragged by the undertow. It is perfectly o.k. to not have all the answers. You are human just the same as I, and we are all fallible.

Just because you’re not 100% certain that it’s your life purpose to save the free world, or cure cancer, or become famous and wealthy doesn’t devalue who you are as a person if you just keep trying. Some of the most overlooked hats that we wear are some of the biggest and most important of causes.

Maybe we only work part-time and our spouse works a full 40 hours per week. So what! When we start a family and have a child, that part-time job helps cover the bills but it also allows one parent to be at home and engaged with the child. How much more important of a role could we play than being the or responsible for raising our kids?

Perhaps the Universe is trying to teach us something and that is why our path is not yet apparent. Could there be something that we’re missing? Is there a lesson that is holding us back from reaching that next step? Unfortunately, I can’t answer that for you only the Universe knows what it is you’re here to do.

But just the same, it’s ok to not know. Uncertainty is a part of life. Sometimes, we’re just not meant to know until just the right time. But one thing’s for sure when the Universe shares that secret we will understand why we were stuck so long.

All we can do when we are lost is make sense of the cardinal directions and take a crack at a guess. Life is the same way. Personally, I feel if you’re not sure which way to turn in life, find something you’re good at, something you like to do and do that. Do the living shit out of it and become the best at it there is. Do it so well, in fact, that people will pay you to do it.

Somewhere along the evolutionary line, we developed this concept that life is hard. We began to believe that just because you work your ass off is no guarantee of success. Instead, I think true success comes from doing that in which we love to the best of our ability.

You could be a burger flipper but be the best burger flipper there ever has been. There was a panhandling man back in Rochester, NY named Artemis. And, Artemis was a writer and a poet. I’d like to share a poem he used to speak that I loved dearly (Or what I can remember of it).

If you can’t be a tree at the top of the hill

Be a bush in the valley

If you can’t be a bush be a shrub

with leaves of green & sweet red berries

Forgo your yearning and longing to be a tree

and be the best little shrub that could ever be.

See? It’s simple. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got it all figured out or not. It literally makes no difference what you do to earn a living. It doesn’t even matter if you make a living at that rate, as long as you are consistently working to be the best version of yourself.

The steps that you’re making might be baby steps to you, but to the tiny ant those baby steps are miles and your miles are lightyears. So stop stressing yourself out so much. Clear your head and be mindful of the energy you send out, in doing so you have opened your mind to the entire realm of possibility.

Smile, it’s a great day to have a great day. Be thankful you’re here to have the chance to try and try your little ass off! Remember, the smallest of snowflakes can finally trigger the avalanche. It’s just a matter of landing in exactly the right spot, and if the Universe wills it to be such then believe me-It will happen when it’s time. Enjoy today for what it is.
